Happy New Year! or is it….

This is something that over 400,000 children probably will not be saying. Why? Because their families will be disrupted, their homes changed–for some–multiple times, their schools changed, they will be separated from their siblings, and their future will be a big question mark.
So for 2011, the mantra needs to be prevention, prevention, prevention. And if that fails, location, location, location. When placement is necessary, with family when possible, in the same neighborhood if not. Schools need to stay the same; after a child’s home is disrupted, the least we can do is keep the teachers, friends, activities a constant in their lives. And siblings deserve to stay together…for many this is the most reliable, stable relationship in their lives.
So, in 2011, while New Year’s resolutions are being made, remember the children!
